Every organization, even governments and not-for-profits, must decide how to fund their activities, so a finance degree will open the doors to working in literally every kind of organization. No matter whether you choose to pursue a finance major or whether you want to supplement another primary interest with a minor in finance, taking a finance course will give you highly marketable and in-demand skills to kickstart a wonderful career.
If you choose to complete a finance degree at Dominican University, you’ll learn in exciting classes taught by professors with decades of real-work experience and phenomenal guest speakers. And you’ll put the knowledge you gain into practice through at least one internship, setting you up for long-term success and helping you build the connections to secure your dream job.
Importantly, our motto is ‘Doing Business Right’, so you’ll not only learn how to support businesses to be successful, you’ll also learn how to help businesses operate in a way that improves our world, something that’s very much in demand thanks to a growing consumer interest in ethical and sustainable business practices.
If you’re working, caring for others, or have any other commitments, you don’t need to worry about whether you’ll be able to fit your finance courses into your busy schedule. While many of our classes are taught in-person during the day, we also offer the option for you to complete much of your finance degree online, and you can take some classes in the evening as well.
So, if you want a degree that’ll make you highly employable at pretty much any business, our finance program is the right choice.
What I love most about Dominican University is that all the faculty make it their duty to see you succeed. All the professors work their absolute hardest to help their students do their best and they will go above and beyond to make sure students leave with many job opportunities. All the professors are passionate about their jobs and have provided me with good career advice that I will remember forever.

All businesses, regardless of whether they’re for-profit and not-for-profit, require financial expertise, so your finance degree will open a huge number of employment doors. Examples of the kinds of fields you might work in include portfolio investment, financial services, and banking. And you could find yourself working for the treasury or finance departments of virtually any type of company.
Throughout our finance program, you’ll learn how to analyze businesses quantitatively and qualitatively. You’ll become proficient in understanding financial statements and developing business models. You’ll also learn about investment theory and practice, including the investment of debt, equity and alternatives for a wide range of client types.
In addition to coming to understand the above theory, you’ll also learn to apply your skills to real-world issues via internships and projects in class where you’ll evaluate real businesses.
