Dominican University New York in Rockland County invites applications for the position of Lab Technician. This position supports biology, chemistry, and physics faculty by setting up and taking down labs, and preparing microbiological media, chemical reagents, and other lab materials as needed. The lab technician is responsible for ordering and maintaining all lab equipment, monitoring budgetary expenditures, maintaining/monitoring inventory and supplies/chemicals, storing and disposal of hazardous waste materials in conjunction with the Chemical Hygiene Officer. The overarching purpose of this position is to foster a safety mindset in the laboratory. This is a full-time,10-month position.
Qualifications and Skills:
High School Diploma with a minimum of four years’ related experience in a scientific discipline, including but not limited to chemistry, biology, or physics.
Additional science education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years’ experience, and a Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for four years’ experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities
- Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office Suite to include Outlook, Word and Excel
- Able to work independently and collectively with faculty and staff
- Excellent organizational skills.
