Borrow
All students, faculty, administrators, and staff with a valid DC1-Card may borrow material from the library.
Library materials can be checked out and returned anytime during normal business hours at the circulation desk. Material may also be returned after hours by using the book drop located outside across from the library entrance.
Patrons may view their checkouts online by going to the Library Catalog and clicking the "Sign In" button on the ribbon at the top of the page. This will prompt you to sign into your Outlook account, so please enter your @dc or @duny credentials to sign in. Once you have signed in, you will be able to view your loans, open requests, and saved materials from our databases. Call the circulation desk at 845-848-7505 with any questions about accessing your Library Account.
General Collection
Anyone in the Dominican University New York community and affiliated borrowers may borrow books from the General Collection.

Overdue Fines & Lost Materials
The library does charge fines for overdue materials; however, all overdue fines are forgiven as soon as items are returned. Our priority is getting materials back so others can use them, and hearing from you if there is a problem, not collecting fines.
Overdue Notices
We will send reminders about upcoming due dates and overdue items to your DC or DUNY email.
Fine Rates
- Regular circulation books: $1.00 perday
- Course reserve items: $1.00 per hour
- Interlibrary Loan (ILL) items: Fines apply according to the lending library's polices
If your fines reach $25.00 or more, borrowing privileges will be paused until items are returned or the balance is addressed.
Lost or Missing Items
If an item is lost, a $10.00 processing fee plus the replacement cost will be charged. However, we will always work with you if something is missing, damaged, or lost - just talk to us. Communication is always better than avoiding the issue.
Reserves
Anyone in the Dominican University community may borrow reserve books. Reserve books may be checked out for up to three hours and may not leave the library. For more information on Reserves, please visit our Course Reserves page.

Non-circulating Material
Reference books and periodicals can only be used in the library.
Holds
Holds may be placed on material that is checked out to another patron. A hold may be placed at the circulation desk with a staff member, or through Dominican Discovery. Holds cannot be placed on reserve materials.
Renew
Material may be renewed as long as no one has placed a "hold" on it. You can renew in person at the circulation desk, over the phone by calling 845-848-7505, or via the Library Catalog by clicking "My Folder" and "Loans". You can then select the renewal button on each item you would like for longer. Material that has reached the renewal limit cannot be renewed. Please refer to the table above for borrowing periods.
Request
The Sullivan Library welcomes suggestions to purchase items to add to our collection. Before completing the form on this page, please check our Library Catalog to see if a title is already available.
If you need access to a title we do not own, please take advantage of our Interlibrary Loan service.
Placing a request does not guarantee a purchase will be made.
Suggest a Purchase
The Sullivan Library evaluates requests for suggested purchases throughout the year based on the needs of our patrons and the university. Please indicate the reason you feel a book, journal or item should be added to the collection in the form below. All recommendations are reviewed by librarians before purchase. Filling out the form does not guarantee that the library will purchase the suggested material. You will receive a confirmation email upon submitting the request.
