Licensure Disclosures
Occupational Therapy
All 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the US territories of Guam and Puerto Rico have licensure laws for occupational therapists. The core licensure requirements in all these jurisdictions are the same. These include that the applicant for licensure must graduate from an accredited occupational therapy program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE), complete a specified minimum amount of supervised fieldwork, and pass the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) entry-level certification exam.
Graduates of the Dominican University New York Master’s Occupational Therapy program meet the core academic and fieldwork requirements for licensing in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the US Territories of Guam and Puerto Rico.

Physical Therapy
The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at Dominican University New York is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). Graduates who successfully pass the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) meet the educational requirements for licensure as physical therapists in all U.S. states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, though individual state boards may impose additional requirements. A felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to obtain state licensure as a physical therapist.

Nursing
The Dominican University New York Division of Nursing subscribes to the professional standards of practice issued by, but not limited to, those of the: AACN Essentials of Baccalaureate Education, ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice, Institute of Medicine Reports on quality, Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) competencies, Domains and Competencies of Nurse Practitioner Practice (NONPF), and Curriculum Guidelines and Program Standards for Nurse Practitioner Education (NONPF).
The Division of Nursing is approved by the State Board of Nursing of New York and is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Washington, DC.
Graduates who successfully pass the National Council Licensing Exam (NCLEX) meet the educational requirements for licensure as Registered Nurses in New York.
Graduate Programs
- Master of Science, Family Nurse Practitioner Program (FNP): The program holds national accreditation approval through the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE): CCNE One Dupont Circle, NW, Suite 530 Washington, DC, 20036-1120, Phone: (202) 887-6791. At the completion of the Master of Science Family Nurse Practitioner program, graduates are eligible to sit for national Certification from either the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
- Post-Baccalaureate Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP): The program holds national accreditation approval through the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). At the completion of the Doctor of Nursing Practice program, graduates who are not certified as Family Nurse Practitioners are eligible to sit for national Certification from either the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
