How to Apply

Start by completing our online application. All international students must submit official transcripts from every secondary school, college, and university attended, in English.

Applicants Who Attended an Institution Outside the United States

If you have completed, or are completing, a secondary (high school), undergraduate, or graduate degree at an institution that is not regionally accredited as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, you must also submit a course-by-course translation and evaluation.

Dominican University New York accepts evaluations from any NACES-recognized foreign transcript evaluator. Whichever service you use, select the course-by-course evaluation option. Other evaluation types do not meet our requirements for admission review.

Our Preferred Partner: TEC (formerly SpanTran)

TEC is our recommended international transcript evaluation service. They built a custom application for Dominican University New York that puts you in the right evaluation type at a discounted rate.

To use a service other than TEC, email the Office of Admissions at internationalstudents@duny.edu first so we can confirm it is accepted.

Your application is not complete without a course-by-course evaluation. Degree equivalency to a U.S. degree is determined at the discretion of the University.

English Proficiency

If you are from a country whose official language is English, or you were instructed in English, you may apply without a test score. If your high school instruction was in English, submit a letter from each school confirming it.

Checklist for International Students


Submit and complete your application

Complete an online application. DUNY offers rolling admission, so there is no hard deadline. If you plan to start in the fall, apply by June 1 so you have enough time to obtain a visa. The fall semester begins in August, and the spring semester begins in January.
Send your admissions materials:
First year students: Send your transcript, test scores, and/or proof of English instruction by email or mail.
Graduate and transfer students: Send your transcript through the evaluation service of your choice. See the options above.

Submit your I-20 application and financial documents

Outside scholarship: an official letter listing your name, the amount for each year of study, and the duration of the award

Approved loan: an official letter from the lender confirming approval and the amount approved

Apply for your I-20 and student visa

If you are accepted to DUNY, we will enroll you in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and issue you a Form I-20. You must pay the SEVIS I-901 fee, then bring your Form I-20 to your visa interview to present to the consular officer. What is the Form I-20?

The Form I-20 is issued by the college or university you plan to attend, and it allows you to apply for an F-1 visa. Your consulate grants the F-1 visa for travel to and study in the United States. DUNY issues the I-20 with the understanding that you will enroll full time and can fund your education.

A $500 deposit reserves your seat in the class and your space in the residence halls. You can pay by credit card, check, or money order. Deposits cannot be covered by scholarships or loans.

Getting to your home away from home

We know that family members often travel with international students. DUNY does not provide transportation to campus. Students and families arrange their own travel from the airport and their own lodging. Below are options other families have used.
