Dominican University is proud to offer a summer hybrid program designed to help certified educators earn their Bilingual Education Extension through a focused, fast-track series of graduate-level courses.

This non-matriculated program is ideal for certified teachers looking to expand their credentials to include bilingual education. Participants will complete the coursework required by the New York State Education Department to be eligible to sit for the NYS Content Specialty Test (BEA) for the bilingual extension.

Program Overview

  • Program Format: Hybrid (online with some live sessions)
  • Credits: 12 graduate-level credits across 4 courses
  • Course Schedule: Two 5-week sessions
  • Start Date: June 2, 2025
  • End Date: August 10, 2025
  • Tuition Discount: Register and pay for 3 courses (9 credits), and the 4th course is FREE with successful completion (grade of B or better) — we call it “Pay 3, Get 1 Free!”

ED 700: Discovering Worlds: Culture, Theories and Trends in Bi/Multilingual Education

Session II: July 7 – August 10 2025

ED 702: Bridging Cultures: Methods for Effective Teaching in Bilingual and Multilingual Classrooms

ED 703: Bi/Multicultural Literacy: Methods and Strategies for Developing Reading and Language Arts

Eligibility

This program is designed for individuals who:

  • Hold or are in the process of earning NYS teacher certification
  • Want to add a bilingual extension to their teaching certification
  • Are prepared to take the NYS Bilingual Education Assessment (BEA) upon completion.
