Doctor of Nursing Practice Approved

The New York State Education Department has approved Dominican College to offer a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree.

The DNP has been adopted as the terminal degree for advanced practice nurses by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) in response to the nursing shortage and the crisis in the healthcare system. Dominican College is implementing the Doctor of Nursing Practice to meet the needs of this paradigm shift and to offer the full spectrum of nursing education.

Building on current master’s nursing program curricula, students in this post master’s DNP program will be prepared at the most advanced level of nursing practice. These clinical leaders will be prepared to improve the safety and quality of patient care. They will influence health care outcomes, both locally and globally, by critically appraising evidence with the use of information technology as well as lead the development and implementation of health care policy.

The DNP program will launch in fall 2015.  Prospective students interested in applying to the program should contact Christina Lifshey, Assistant Director of Graduate Admissions by phone (845) 848-7908 or email: christina.lifshey@duny.edu
