The “Spirit of the Founders Award” is highly regarded at Dominican University. This award represents a respect for the values and traditions that have endured for centuries and holds the promise that the Dominican tradition will be carried on. The “Spirit of the Founders Award” also represents for its recipients a strong belief in their potential as leaders, as they leave Dominican University to make their mark in the world.
Sister Arlene Flaherty OP is a Dominican Sister of Blauvelt, NY and is Director of the Office of Justice and Peace and Integrity of creation for the Atlantic Midwest Province of the School Sisters of Notre Dame. Since entering the Blauvelt Dominicans in 1977, Sister Arlene’s ministry has been at the intersection of theology, spirituality, and justice. She is a teacher, workshop leader, justice animator, and group facilitator.
For the past year Sister Arlene has been teaching Theology and Spirituality in an Evolutionary Context at An Tairseach, the Dominican Organic Farm and Ecology Center in County Wicklow, Ireland.
