Remembering two Chargers whose legacies continue to make a difference

This year holds special meaning as we mark 40 years since Bobby Mulligan’s passing and 26 years since Sue Heller’s passing. Join us as we honor their enduring legacies and support the scholarships established in their names

The day begins with our always-entertaining Alumni Basketball Game in the Hennessy Center. Then, stay to cheer on the Chargers as our women’s and men’s basketball teams take on Thomas Jefferson University!

• 10:00 a.m. | Alumni Game Tip-Off
• 2:00 p.m. | Women’s Basketball Game Honoring Sue Heller
• 4:00 p.m. | Men’s Basketball Game Honoring Bobby Mulligan

Charger Alumni:
Play in the Alumni Game at 10:00 a.m.
Registration will open the week after Thanksgiving.

Remembering Bobby Mulligan

Bobby Mulligan was a member of Dominican’s men’s basketball team when he tragically passed away on August 30, 1987, before the start of his senior year. A talented and determined competitor, Bobby was known for his perseverance on the court and his loyalty off it.

He had already scored 912 career points and was on track to reach the 1,000-point milestone. Following his passing, Bobby was posthumously inducted into Dominican’s 1,000-Point Club.

Forty years later, his memory remains part of the Dominican community. The Bobby Mulligan Memorial Scholarship Fund honors his life by helping students pursue their education.

Remembering Sue Heller

Sue Heller was the first Lady Charger to score 1,000 career points. A fierce competitor, she took tremendous pride in her Dominican accomplishments, including her 1998 induction into the Dominican University Athletic Hall of Fame.

A 1980 graduate, Sue earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and certification in special education. Following her passing on January 17, 2001, Dominican renamed its women’s basketball 1,000-Point Club the Sue Heller 1,000-Point Club and dedicated an annual women’s basketball game to her memory.

The Sue Heller Memorial Scholarship Fund continues her legacy by supporting Dominican students.
