Frequently Asked Questions about Online Degree Programs

What is the format for the Online Programs?

Within our Online Programs, courses are offered strictly online with no need to attend the campus for class related issues. Our Online Programs are offered in six accelerated sessions per year which run every eight weeks, as opposed to our traditional programs which run in two 16 week semesters per year. Students can enroll in up to three courses (nine credits) per session equaling 18 courses (54 credits) per year. To view our session start dates and course schedules click here.

We are happy to schedule a convenient time for you to visit Dominican University. Tours are usually given weekdays and some Saturdays, by appointment. Also, you can attend our Fall and Spring Info Sessions for Undergraduate Adults.

How quickly can I complete my four year degree online at Dominican University?

Four year programs are comprised of about 120 credits. At Dominican University a maximum of 70 credits are transferable from a two-year institution and a maximum of 90 credits are transferrable from a four-year institution. You can complete up to 36 credits in one year through our Accelerated Online Program here at Dominican University and a minimum of 30 credits must be completed at Dominican University in order for a degree to be awarded. See our Articulation Agreements to learn more.

Do I need to take placements exams as an Online Student?

Yes. ALL students are required to complete the English placement exam. The Math placement exam must be completed if it is required by your program. Placement Exams are also available through our internet based option. To find out more about how to take you placement exam online please contact our Academic Success Center at 845.848.4056.

Is Financial Aid available?

The University participates in Federal and New York State financial aid programs. You can contact our Financial Aid department for more information via email at financial.aid@duny.edu or by phone at 845.848.7818.

Do you offer Housing for online students?

No.

How do I begin the Application Process for Online Programs at Dominican University?

The process for applying to our Online Program is very easy. Your first step is to fill out and submit an online application.Your next step is to request Official Transcripts from all schools previously attended. Have them sent to Dominican University Attention: Office of Admissions. You will then need to fill out a FAFSA form by visiting https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa to apply for Financial Aid. Your final step is to simply wait for a letter regarding your acceptance at which point you will hear from your Online Advisor, Dr. AnnMarie DiSiena, in regards to registering for classes. How do I know when my application is complete?

Our Online Admissions Counselor will be in touch with you early in the admissions & enrollment process. Students are contacted by e-mail and telephone. We will let you know as soon as your file is complete. You can also check your status on the DC Portal using your Dominican University ID number.
