Dominican University - Moving Forward
Guiding Principles on Returning to Campus
- Dominican University will fulfill its mission and meet its standard of excellence. The core mission of Dominican University remains unchanged, even in a changing environment. We are committed to promoting educational excellence, leadership, and service in an environment characterized by respect for the individual and concern for the community and its needs. The university empowers this community of learners to excel, lead, and serve with integrity and to engage responsibly in the pursuit of a more just, ethical, and sustainable world.
- The health and safety of our university community are paramount. Protecting our students, faculty, and staff is the starting point for each decision. Our goal is to resume suspended on-campus activities to the greatest extent possible as soon as it would be prudent. Our return will be conducted in a phased approach. It will be dependent upon the conditions related to the virus and the best public health practices available to mitigate its impacts, including screening protocols, office space re-designs, physical distancing, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- We will be flexible and innovative in the face of evolving circumstances. We will embrace fully the challenge and opportunity of exploring new ways to further our mission and goals as circumstances evolve. The path of this pandemic will require us to be flexible for quite some time.
- We will heed our responsibility to ensure the University's financial strength and stability. The success of our response to this pandemic will have lasting effects on Dominican University, and we must be mindful to make decisions that not only help us weather the present crisis but also position us for sustained institutional excellence and financial stability.
Dominican University’s plans for reopening are based on Governor Cuomo’s NY Forward-A Guide to Reopening New York & Building Back Better, Centers for Disease Control guidelines, Rockland County Department of Health guidelines, and all applicable executive orders and ordinances.
