What to Bring to Campus

Below is a comprehensive list of items we suggest you bring and the prohibited items for the Residence Centers. You want to bring some of the comforts of home, but not your whole life! You do need a little space to live so we suggest leaving seasonal items at home and swapping them out when you visit home.

Please take note of the list of prohibited items. Residence Life conducts room inspections each semester and these items will be confiscated.

General

  • Small broom, vacuum, dustpan
  • Small waste basket with size appropriate garbage bags
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Surge protector power strip (extension cords or multi plug adapters are not permitted)
  • First aid supplies
  • Flashlight and batteries
  • Headphones
  • Fan (for first and last months)
  • Umbrella
  • Snacks
  • Reusable water bottle

Bed and Laundry

  • Alarm clock
  • Twin XL sheets
  • Pillows, pillowcases
  • Blankets and bedspread
  • Towels
  • Bathroom caddy
  • Shower shoes/ flip flops
  • Bathroom necessities (toilet paper and shower curtain provided in freshman halls)
  • Laundry bag/ basket
  • High efficiency detergent and softener
  • Small ironing board/ iron with auto shutoff
  • Clothes hangers
  • Drying rack

Other items

You might not need more than one of these per room so coordinate your plans with roommate.

  • Full length mirror
  • Television
  • DVD player/ gaming console
  • Refrigerators must be 3.1 cubic feet or smaller

Optional

  • Laptop/ tablet
  • Printer and extra ink
  • Room decorations (Nothing that will leave holes or remove paint)
  • Area rug

Prohibited Items

  • Extension cords or multi plug adapters (only surge protected power strips)
  • Toaster ovens/ hot plates/ electric contact grills or similar device
  • Crock pots and hot water pots
  • Coffee makers (except Keurig type)
  • Personal microwaves (except in Guzman Hall)
  • Halogen lamps and lava lamps
  • Any outside furniture without the consent of Residence Life (including couches, bookshelves, and tables)
  • Anything with an exposed heating element
  • Air conditioners
  • Nails or screws, scotch tape, and glue on the walls
  • Dart boards
  • Candles, incense, open flame devices, plug-in air freshners
  • DJ equipment/ musical instruments with amplifiers and drum sets
  • Hookahs and paraphernalia
  • Stolen signs
  • Space heaters
  • Electric blankets
  • BBQ grills
  • Weapons of any kind (including paintball guns and airsoft/bb guns)
  • Pets (except fish tanks under 10 gallons)
